Pros

  • Easy to get running
  • Makes the taskbar more useful
  • Lightweight & fast

Cons

  • Not much functionality beyond repositioning icons

FalconX is a customization utility that enables users to arrange taskbar icons in whatever manner they're prefer. This makes it easy to sort different programs by groups or to position icons in a manner that mirrors the presence of a dock on other systems.

All icon rearrangements are done in real time, which gives you the freedom to see the results without having to wait. It can automatically center icons while you open new programs, which is especially useful for those who regularly use hotkeys to launch different programs. Once the software is up and running you won't have to worry about any manual taskbar icon placements at all.

Perhaps most importantly, FalconX is lightweight. It's much simpler than dedicated dock programs and it doesn't bother automatically arranging new icons that hit your taskbar for a short period of time and then go away. As a result, it's fast and doesn't add much in the way of additional overhead to your potentially already bloated stack.

All you have to do to have your icons resorted is run the program again. You might want to configure a hotkey to do this or possibly create a custom shortcut so that FalconX is always easy to access. That makes it even more useful for people who have a tendency to launch program after program throughout an average workday.

Power users may want to use FalconX with Windows' default autohide technology or one of the other advanced Start menu modes. Those who have their system already configured with these options shouldn't run into any issues, which may make it more of an attractive choice for people with highly customized systems.
